ALT
(GPT) is an important liver enzyme
test used to assess liver damage in patients
on cholesterol-lowering, dermatelogical
and diabetic drugs or other prescription
therapies.
Guidelines
suggest routine monitoring of patients
on statins, glitazones, NSAIDs, and many
other drugs. ALT/AST testing is important prior
to treatment to establish a baseline level,
and is repeated two to twelve times per
year based on the medications currently
prescribed.
